Ackerman Family Vineyards was founded by Lauren Ackerman, who bought her Coombsville vineyard in 1994, before the district was even an official AVA. The estate grows Cabernet Sauvignon in the cool southeastern corner of Napa Valley, and the first commercial release was the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Leo Tellez, a third-generation Napa native, now makes the wines. Ackerman is also known for its home base in downtown Napa: the Ackerman Heritage House, a restored 1888 Victorian that opened to visitors in 2015. Tours of the house pair the family's Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc with a look at one of Napa's historic homes, giving visitors a different kind of tasting experience from the typical winery visit. The range is small and focused on estate Cabernet Sauvignon, made in limited quantities. For HeyVino readers, Ackerman is a good pick for Coombsville Cabernet combined with a walkable downtown Napa stop.
