Acre Wines started with exactly one acre. In 2002 Dave Becker planted Cabernet Sauvignon right up to the deck of his Oak Knoll home using two thousand surplus vines a friend had left over from a nearby winery, splitting the block evenly between clones 191 and 337 — the site is still called Porchview. When the 2005 One Acre Cabernet beat some five hundred entries at an international competition in Hong Kong in 2008, Becker joined forces with Bob Babbe, a thirty-year industry veteran from Cartlidge & Browne, to widen the project into Acre. Mike and Talley Henry bought the winery in 2017, bringing in UC Davis-trained winemaker Richard Bruno; Mike grew up in the business through his father Warner Henry, founder of what became The Henry Wine Group. Fruit now comes from family-owned, sustainably and organically farmed sites across Napa Valley and Mendocino.
