Alexander Valley Vineyards is a family-owned estate in northern Sonoma County, set on the land where Cyrus Alexander, the valley's namesake, settled in the 1840s and built his home. The Wetzel family has farmed the property for five decades, and the third generation now runs the winery while a fourth grows up on the ranch. The estate covers more than 720 acres along Highway 128, about six miles from Healdsburg, with vineyards running from the banks of the Russian River up into the Mayacamas hillsides. AVV is known for approachable Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and a wide range of Zinfandels, and its flagship CYRUS is a Cabernet-based blend named for the homestead's founder. The wines age in 48,000 square feet of underground caves, among the largest in Sonoma, and the vineyards are farmed under certified sustainable practices.
