Bethel Rd. Distillery & Winery was founded in 2013 by the Udsen family — the same family behind Paso Robles stalwart Castoro Cellars — after Niels Udsen returned from Italy inspired to distill grappa from the winemaking process's leftover skins, seeds, and stems. What began as a side project in sustainability grew into a full spirits program of grappa, gin, aged brandy, and liqueurs, alongside small-batch wines made from organically and biodynamically farmed estate fruit grown exclusively in the Templeton Gap District, including Syrah and Primitivo. Now run by the next generation, brothers Max (head distiller) and Luke Udsen, the Highway 46 West tasting room pairs sweeping vineyard views with one of the only working distilleries on the Paso Robles Distillery Trail.
