Cade Estate is the Howell Mountain winery of the PlumpJack Group, the company founded by Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty, with John Conover as principal and general manager. The winery was completed in 2009 and released its first estate wine in the fall of 2010. It sits at 360 Howell Mountain Road South near Angwin, at about 1,800 feet, on a 54-acre property with 21 acres planted to vines, so the estate wines are true mountain fruit grown above the fog line. Cade was built with sustainability in mind and earned LEED Gold certification, unusual for a winery at the time. The range centers on Cabernet Sauvignon, from a Napa Valley bottling to the Estate and Reserve Cabernets, along with a popular Sauvignon Blanc. Cade is a sister winery to PlumpJack in Oakville and Odette in the Stags Leap District, which makes it easy to compare Howell Mountain against two very different parts of Napa Valley.
