Caliza Winery was founded in 2005 when husband-and-wife team Pam and Carl Bowker planted a 20-acre hillside vineyard on Anderson Road in the Willow Creek District, on Paso Robles' limestone-rich west side. The winery takes its name from the Spanish word for limestone, a nod to the chalky soils that define the site. The Bowkers oversee every stage of the process, from vine to bottle, farming sustainably and focusing on Rhone varieties including Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Viognier, and Roussanne, alongside Tempranillo, Primitivo, Petite Sirah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate sits in the Templeton Gap, where warm days give way to cooling evening winds off the Pacific. Caliza remains small and family-run, producing handcrafted, small-lot wines meant to showcase the character of its Willow Creek vineyard.
