Paul and Kellye Manuel both trace their roots to Cornwall, where Paul's great-grandfather learned tin mining before bringing the trade to California's Gold Country. On a visit to the family church in the village of Chacewater, a mason's mark caught Paul's eye; it became the winery's logo. He was working in the family construction business on 80 acres outside Nevada City when a fire swept the land in 1988 and cleared it ā so he planted ten acres of grapes, expanded to 36, and spent two decades selling organically grown fruit to Fetzer. In 2008 he bought a ten-acre olive mill property in Kelseyville from the monks of Saint Gregory of Sinai Monastery and built a 10,000-square-foot winery on it. The ranch now carries more than 3,000 certified-organic olive trees feeding six extra virgin oils alongside the wines, and the first commercial releases in 2011 immediately started collecting state fair medals.
