Chateau Boswell was founded by Richard Thornton Boswell, known as R.T., whose first commercial release came from the 1979 vintage. The winery building, a small stone chateau at 3468 Silverado Trail in St. Helena, was built in 1982 and became one of the more storybook sights on the Silverado Trail. In 2020 the Glass Fire destroyed the winery building, the family house and nearly all of the winery's old library wines, one of the most painful losses of that fire season. The family committed to rebuilding, and tastings and tours have continued by appointment in the estate cave. Allison Nunnikhoven is the lead winemaker, with Philippe Melka consulting. The lineup includes Cabernet Sauvignon, a red blend, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, rosΓ© and sparkling wine. R.T. Boswell died in 2014. Chateau Boswell's story of loss and rebuilding makes it a meaningful winery to support for readers who follow Napa's recovery from the 2020 fires.
