Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a Pessac-Léognan cru classé transformed by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, former Olympic skiers who bought the estate in 1990 and drove it to the summit of Graves. Its 2009 red earned a perfect 100 points, its barrel-fermented white ranks among Bordeaux's greatest, and the estate's Caudalie vinotherapy spa pioneered wine-country luxury hospitality. The family's Napa Valley estate, Cathiard Vineyard in Rutherford, was acquired in January 2020 and is run under the same ownership.
