Château Villemaurine is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé on the limestone plateau of Bordeaux's right bank. Its name comes from "Ville Maure," the city of the Moors, a nod to an 8th-century encampment on the site. Beneath the vineyard runs an extraordinary network of underground limestone quarries, left by generations of stone extraction and now used as natural cellars for aging the wine. The vineyard is planted mostly to Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, on clay-limestone soils over the plateau's famous asteriated limestone. The grand vin is aged in French oak, largely new, and the estate also produces a second wine, Les Angelots de Villemaurine. Owned by the Lefévère family since 2021, the château welcomes visitors by appointment for vineyard, heritage, and underground quarry tours.
