Colgin Cellars traces back to 1988, when founder Ann Colgin — then an art specialist at Sotheby's and Christie's — attended the Napa Valley Wine Auction and resolved to make wine of her own. Her first vintage came from the historic Herb Lamb Vineyard below Howell Mountain; she later replanted Tychson Hill, a St. Helena site first farmed in the 1880s by Josephine Tychson, the valley's first female vintner. Now part of LVMH, Colgin makes roughly 4,000 cases a year from three hillside sites, sold almost exclusively through its mailing list.
