Compline is a wine bar, restaurant, and retail shop in downtown Napa, founded in September 2017 by sommeliers Matt Stamp and Ryan Stetins. Stamp previously worked as a sommelier at The French Laundry and spent years as a wine writer and educator; Stetins served as wine director for Charlie Trotter. The name refers to compline, the final hour of the monastic day, a nod to the monks who tended vines across Europe and along the California coast. The restaurant's list spans more than 1,200 selections priced at retail rather than restaurant markups, and was named Best Value Wine List in North America by the World of Fine Wine in 2024, 2025, and 2026. A second, larger Compline Wine Shop opened a few storefronts away in the First Street Napa development in October 2022, carrying roughly 800 bottles with a focus on classic international producers alongside Napa's best, and doubling as a tasting lounge that hosts regular wine events and changing flights.
