Darioush was founded in 1997 by Darioush Khaledi and his wife, Shahpar. Born in Iran, Darioush trained and worked as a civil engineer before emigrating to the United States in 1976, where he helped build a regional grocery chain before turning to wine. The winery's hospitality center at 4240 Silverado Trail, completed in 2004, is one of Napa's most recognizable buildings, a Persian palace whose design draws on the Apadana hall at Persepolis, complete with towering columns. Darioush farms a 33-acre estate around the winery plus vineyards in other parts of the valley, including the Sage Vineyard on Mount Veeder and the Salumeh Vineyard in Coombsville. The core lineup is the Signature series, led by Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, Signature Shiraz and Signature Chardonnay, along with The Duel and the flagship Darius II. For visitors, Darioush pairs polished Bordeaux-style reds with a tasting experience unlike anything else on the Silverado Trail.
