Diamond Mountain Vineyard sits at the summit of Diamond Mountain above Calistoga, on a site first planted to vines in 1895 by Danish immigrant Andrew Rasmussen, who cleared 120 acres of forest land and established 30 acres of vineyard. The property was abandoned during Prohibition and lay overgrown until Fred and Mary Constant purchased it in 1993, clearing the land and rebuilding the estate with architect Howard Backen. The first released vintage came in 1995 under winemaker Philippe Melka. Aries Liu and Sai You became stewards of the property in 2016, and today veteran winemaker Kevin Vecchiarelli, previously of Grgich Hills Estate and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, leads production with consulting winemaker Paul Hobbs. The estate includes a barrel cave carved from stone quarried on site. Its position at the top of the mountain provides optimal sun exposure and an elongated ripening period, producing Bordeaux varietals that are both powerful and restrained. Wines are sold by allocation, with visits strictly by appointment.
