EDGE exists because Ray Signorello kept hearing the same complaint. He had co-founded Signorello Estate with his father in 1977, and by the early 2000s he noticed that Cabernet Sauvignon was the wine people most wanted out of Napa and the one they could least afford. The idea was a cutting-edge wine without the cutting-edge price, which is where the name comes from. Signorello launched it with partners drawn from travel, mining and finance backgrounds, releasing the first commercial vintage in 2001 and moving the sourcing entirely to Alexander Valley in 2014, where deep alluvial gravel and a warm climate build thick-skinned, concentrated fruit. The blend is anchored by Cabernet with small additions of Petite Sirah, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, aged sixteen months in French oak. Antonio Galloni called the 2018 one of the finest values in California Cabernet.
