Cliff and Patricia Ehrlich first saw Napa Valley in 1967, on a neighbor's recommendation, shortly after moving from the East Coast to Southern California with their one-year-old daughter. There were only a handful of wineries then; they visited Charles Krug, Inglenook and Robert Mondavi and kept coming back for three decades. In 1998 they bought a 10.5-acre valley-floor parcel in the heart of Oakville, bordered by Opus One and Nickel & Nickel, and became quietly celebrated growers — their fruit has gone to Accendo Cellars, B Cellars, Duckhorn, Groth and Trois Noix, with B Cellars bottling the first Ehrlich Vineyard designate in 2012. After twenty-five years selling grapes, and with Cliff and Patricia in their eighties, their children Susan and Scott pushed the family to bottle under its own name. Paul Hobbs makes the wine; the inaugural 2021 Cabernet ran to 250 cases.
