Dan Abrams nearly bought into a Central Coast wine project in the early 2000s, never pulled the trigger, and by his own account spent the following years watching friends acquire vineyards and getting jealous. The search resumed in 2017 when Charles Massoud of Paumanok drove him to a Laurel property that wasn't yet on the market. Abrams — chief legal affairs correspondent for ABC News and host of Dan Abrams Live — bought the forty-odd-acre estate and renamed it for his children, Everett and Emilia. The site itself is older than the label: vines went in during 1984, originally all Chardonnay, and the fruit was sold to neighboring growers until a winery was built in 1996 under the name Laurel Lake Vineyards. Longtime winemaker Juan Sepulveda stayed on through the transition. More than twenty acres are under vine, some now over forty years old, and the property has been farmed to sustainable standards since the change in ownership, with a Bordeaux-style red blend as the flagship ambition.
