Farella Vineyard is one of the pioneers of Coombsville, the cool district in southeastern Napa Valley. Frank Farella bought the land in the mid-1970s and the vineyard was planted in 1979, with the first Farella wine made in 1985. His son Tom Farella was head winemaker from 1991 to 2018 and also drafted the proposal that led to Coombsville becoming an official AVA in 2011, so the family's influence reaches well beyond its own bottles. The estate at 2222 North Third Avenue, about four miles east of downtown Napa, has 26 acres of vines, and for decades the vineyard sold fruit to other respected wineries while the family made about 1,500 cases of its own wine a year, focused on Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties. In July 2026 the Farellas sold the property and winery to Realm Cellars, while leasing back the winery to keep making Farella wines. Frank Farella died in 2025.
