Faust is a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon label owned by Huneeus Vintners, the family company that also owns Quintessa, where Faust was first made. The first vintage was 2002, and the name is a nod to the old German legend of Dr. Faust as told in Goethe's work, a fitting image for a bold, dark Cabernet. The heart of the brand is an estate vineyard of about 121 acres off Coombsville Road in the Coombsville district, with roughly 100 acres planted, mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon. The Napa Valley Cabernet blends that cooler Coombsville fruit with grapes from mountain sites, including Atlas Peak, Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain, for a layered, structured wine. Faust welcomes visitors in a historic house at 2867 St. Helena Highway in St. Helena. Widely available at retail and in restaurants, Faust is one of the more approachable ways to try a Huneeus-made Napa Cabernet, and it shows up often in seasonal promotions.
