Futo Estate is the family winery of Tom and Kyle Futo, who bought their Oakville property in 2004 and made their first bottling the same year. The estate sits at 1575 Oakville Grade Road on 155 acres, of which only about 14 are planted, on the western hillsides above the valley floor. In 2011 the Futos added a second property in the Stags Leap District, with roughly 8 of its 40 acres planted. Mark Aubert was the first winemaker, and Jason Exposto led the cellar from 2008. The lineup includes the Oakville Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, FUTO 5500 from the Stags Leap District estate, OV|SL, which blends the two sites, and SETA. The 2005 Oakville Cabernet earned 96 points from Wine Spectator. The winery was designed by architect Howard Backen. Futo is a good pick for Cabernet lovers who want to compare two of Napa's most celebrated districts side by side.
