Hoopes Vineyard began in 1981, when Spencer Hoopes bought a 10-acre vineyard in Oakville, the heart of Napa Valley's Cabernet country. The first Hoopes wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon, came with the 1999 vintage. In 2013 Spencer's daughter, Lindsay Hoopes, joined the business, and she now manages day-to-day winery operations. The lineup is anchored by Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon and includes Dante's Block, Maya's Block Merlot, an Oak Knoll Syrah and the more casual Hoopla label. Visitors taste at Oasis by Hoopes, near Yountville, by reservation only. For HeyVino readers, Hoopes offers a family-owned way to taste Oakville estate Cabernet, along with a lighter, approachable side through Hoopla, so it works both for collectors and for casual wine lovers looking for a fun Napa stop.
