Jericho Canyon Vineyard is a family-owned mountain estate in Calistoga. Dale and Marla Bleecher bought 135 acres in 1989 in a rugged canyon off Old Lawley Toll Road on the flanks of Mount St. Helena, at the very northern end of Napa Valley, and planted vineyards on the hillsides. Their son Nick Bleecher is head winemaker, keeping the winery a true family operation. The steep slopes and volcanic soils produce small, concentrated grapes, and the estate is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon, along with Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The lineup also includes Chimera, a red blend, Solair, a Sauvignon Blanc and a rosΓ©. Production is small and sold mainly direct to customers. For HeyVino readers, Jericho Canyon is a strong pick for powerful Calistoga mountain Cabernet from a family estate that remains relatively under the radar compared with many of its neighbors.
