Kenefick Ranch is a family estate just southeast of Calistoga founded by Dr. Tom Kenefick, a neurosurgeon who practiced at the Mayo Clinic before turning to grape growing. In 2020 the ranch celebrated 40 years of growing grapes and 20 years of making its own wine. The property covers about 250 acres, roughly half of which is farmed, with vineyards off Rosedale Road on the valley floor. Tom's son Chris and daughter Caitlin are co-owners. The range focuses on estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varieties, including Chris's Cuvée, a Cabernet Sauvignon blend, and the Doctor's Cuvée reserve Cabernet named for the founder. Calistoga's warm days and cool nights give the reds ripe fruit and soft tannins. For HeyVino readers, Kenefick Ranch is a genuine grower-producer, offering estate wines from a family that knows its vineyard intimately.
