Lang & Reed is John and Tracey Skupny's Napa Valley label devoted almost entirely to Cabernet Franc — a variety most of the valley treats as a blending component rather than a headliner. They made a prototype in 1993 and went commercial in 1996, becoming the Napa Valley Vintners' 125th member; the name comes from their two sons, J Reed and Jerzy Lang. John had spent the prior decade running sales at Caymus, then serving as VP of Clos Du Val and GM of Niebaum-Coppola, while Tracey built a long tenure at Spottswoode. The range spans an early-drinking North Coast bottling, the more structured Premier Étage, a Right Bank Bordeaux blend and, more recently, Chenin Blanc, all poured at their St. Helena tasting salon, Spring House.
