Malk Family Vineyards is a small, family-owned winery in the Stags Leap District founded by Brian and Nancy Malk, who bought eleven hillside acres in the district in 1998. The winery is at 5850 Silverado Trail in Napa, and its estate vineyard is a two-acre hillside planting of Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Robbie Meyer has made Malk's wines since the first vintage in 2003, giving the label a consistent style over two decades. The Stags Leap District is known for Cabernet Sauvignon with ripe fruit and the soft, velvety tannins often described as an iron fist in a velvet glove, and the estate Cabernet is the heart of Malk's range. The lineup also includes the Staffordshire Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, a Sauvignon Blanc, a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and a rosé of Pinot Noir. With so little estate fruit, production is small, and most wines are sold through the winery directly, making Malk a personal, boutique way to taste the district.
