Mi Sueño, Spanish for my dream, is the winery of Rolando and Lorena Herrera and one of Napa Valley's best-known immigrant success stories. Rolando became cellar master at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars at age 21, then went on to work at Chateau Potelle, Vine Cliff and Paul Hobbs before launching his own label. Mi Sueño's first vintage, in 1997, was a Chardonnay. The winery owns no vineyards of its own and instead works with growers under long-term leases in Napa Valley and Sonoma County. The lineup includes Los Carneros Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Syrah, a Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon and the El Llano red blend, plus a very limited Herrera label. Tastings are by appointment at the winery in an industrial park about a ten-minute drive south of downtown Napa. For HeyVino readers, Mi Sueño offers well-made wines with a genuinely inspiring family story behind them.
