Michael Mondavi Family Estate is the wine company of Michael Mondavi, who in 1966 became a co-founder of Robert Mondavi Winery, the Oakville winery his father founded that year. After that chapter, Michael and his family built their own business, and in 1999 they bought 15 acres of volcanic, high-elevation land on Atlas Peak, which became the Animo Vineyard, a name chosen by daughter Dina. Today the family works across several labels. M by Michael Mondavi is the top Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on Animo, while Emblem offers Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at a more accessible price, and Isabel Mondavi, named for Michael's wife, covers Chardonnay, rosé and Pinot Noir. Son Rob Mondavi Jr. oversees viniculture for all of the family's labels, and Dina handles marketing and export sales. For HeyVino readers, the estate is a way to follow the Mondavi name into its third generation, with mountain Cabernet from Atlas Peak at the top of the range.
