Moone-Tsai was started by Larry and MaryAnne Tsai with co-founder Mike Moone, whom the Tsais later bought out. From the beginning the wines have been made by Philippe Melka, one of Napa Valley's most sought-after consulting winemakers, which gives Moone-Tsai a clear stylistic signature of ripe, polished Cabernet Sauvignon. Rather than owning a single estate, the winery sources from top sites across the valley, including To Kalon in Oakville, Pritchard Hill and Coombsville, with Howell Mountain fruit contributing to some bottlings. The lineup includes the Cor Leonis Cabernet Sauvignon, a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, the Howell Mountain Hillside Blend, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Black List, and in 2025 the winery unveiled Leonidas, presented as its top Cabernet Sauvignon. Production is small and sold mainly through the mailing list. Moone-Tsai is a good choice for readers who follow Melka's work and want access to several of Napa's best-known vineyard sources.
