Ospreys Dominion Vineyards was founded in 1983 by Bud Koehler, a retired Farmingdale construction worker who moved out to the North Fork with his wife and 11 children and planted 24 acres in Peconic — becoming one of the region's founding four wineries alongside Hargrave, Pindar, and Paumanok. Koehler named the estate for the osprey, the "great, courageous bird" that watches over the North Fork's skies, and his family hand-harvested the vines together each October in the early years. The winery bottled its first vintage in 1991 and now farms roughly 90 acres, producing 25 estate-grown wines including its signature Flight label — named by Koehler and business partner Bill Tyree, both pilots — alongside a Richmond Creek label introduced in 2003. Ospreys Dominion was named New York State Winery of the Year in 2005 and remains a family-run, live-music-and-picnics destination on the North Fork Wine Trail.
