Robert Foley Vineyards is the personal label of Bob Foley, who has made wine in Napa Valley since 1977, when he started at Heitz Cellars. He went on to become the founding winemaker at Markham Vineyards, where he made the wines for 15 years, and then spent another 15 years as winemaker at Pride Mountain Vineyards, where his Spring Mountain Cabernets and Merlots built a devoted following. The first wine under his own name was the 1998 Claret, a Bordeaux-style blend that remains the signature of the label. In 2006 Foley moved his operation up to Howell Mountain, and today the range includes the Claret, Merlot and Charbono, a rare grape with a long history in Napa Valley that few wineries still bottle. Production is small and the wines are made in a bold, ripe mountain style. Bob Foley is also known as a musician, and his winery reflects a winemaker with decades of Napa experience and a personal point of view.
