Robert Sinskey Vineyards was founded in 1986 by Dr. Robert Sinskey, a cataract surgeon, and is run today by his son Rob Sinskey and Rob's wife, Maria Sinskey, a chef who shaped the winery's food-focused style. For decades the winery was a landmark on the eastern side of the Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District, until hospitality there closed on June 18, 2023, and the winery moved its home to 4059 Old Sonoma Road in Carneros. The family farms nearly 200 certified organic acres across five Carneros properties, and every vineyard has been farmed biodynamically since 2008. The wines are built for the table rather than for power. Carneros Pinot Noir is the most-produced wine, and the best-known red blend is POV, a Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Sinskey is a good fit for readers who want Napa wines with lower alcohol, bright acidity and a strong organic farming story.
