Nils Venge, known as the "King of Cab" for producing the first 100-point Cabernet ever scored by Robert Parker (the 1985 Groth Reserve), founded Saddleback in Oakville in the late 1970s. The small estate produces both classic Napa Cabernet and unusual varietals rarely seen in the valley, including Charbono, Tannat, and Vermentino.
