Founded by Nils Venge, who became one of the first American winemakers to receive a perfect 100-point Robert Parker rating, for the 1985 Groth Reserve Cabernet, with roots in a 1976 Oakville purchase. His son Kirk Venge took over winemaking in 1999 and full ownership in 2008; the flagship is Scout's Honor.
