Volker Eisele Family Estate was founded in 1974 by Volker and Liesel Eisele in Chiles Valley, a quiet side valley in the hills east of the main Napa Valley. The estate is large by Napa standards, about 400 acres, but only around 60 are planted to vines, with the rest left as open land. The vineyards have been certified organic by CCOF since the early 1990s, making the Eiseles early adopters of organic farming in Napa County. Volker Eisele was also a prominent voice for Napa agriculture, leading the Napa County Farm Bureau and the Napa Valley Grape Growers. Today his son Alexander and Alexander's wife, Catherine, run the estate. The wines are estate grown, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style reds at the center, including the Terzetto blend. Chiles Valley's cooler nights and higher elevation give the wines freshness and structure. For HeyVino readers, it is a chance to taste organic Napa wine from one of the county's quieter corners.
