Wente Vineyards, founded in 1883 in the Livermore Valley, is the oldest continuously operated family-owned winery in the United States, now run by its fourth and fifth generations. Its greatest legacy is the Wente clone of Chardonnay — the genetic source of the majority of California Chardonnay planted today — and the winery remains a leader in estate-grown, certified-sustainable wine.
