Wine Enthusiast started in 1979 when Adam and Sybil Strum began selling wine accessories out of their garage in Pleasantville, New York, working from a mail-order catalog. The catalog came first and the magazine followed in 1988, and the two halves grew alongside each other — one becoming a widely read ratings publication, the other becoming one of the largest retailers of wine storage and serving equipment in the country. The commerce side is the relevant one here: refrigerated wine cabinets and cellar systems, decanters, glassware, openers, racking and storage furniture, plus a curated wine selection, with frequent sitewide promotions and seasonal sales.
