Zeitgeist Cellars is the husband-and-wife label of two working Napa Valley winemakers. Mark Porembski, who holds a degree in poetry, has been head winemaker at Anomaly Vineyards since 2005, and Jennifer Williams was head winemaker at Spottswoode from 2006 to 2010 and is now a winemaker and partner at Arrow & Branch. The couple made Zeitgeist's first vintage in 2005. The name, German for the spirit of the times, fits a label that mixes classic Napa Cabernet with more adventurous bottlings. The lineup includes Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from respected vineyards such as Lewelling, Farella and Sleeping Lady, along with less common wines such as Chenin Blanc and Trousseau Gris. Production is small, and the wines are sold mainly to a mailing list, with tastings by appointment. For HeyVino readers, Zeitgeist is a chance to taste wines made with the same skill the couple brings to their day jobs, in a more personal and experimental register.
